Steampunk

Steampunk appears in a wide range of mediums including video games, movies, books, fashion and on this site, canvas prints. Aesthetically speaking, Steampunk is characterised by steam powered machines and Victorian fashion, it is the present as a Victorian might have imagined their future. Although the term is known to have appearred as back as far back as 1987, placing it in Google trends shows a considerable increase in search volume for Steampunk from 2007 through to 2013, more than likely driven for the most part, by the fashion. Afterall, a person dressed in a quality and well coordinated Steampunk outfit can look sexy, imaginative and classy all in one. This is because the fashion takes upperclass Victorian style elements (such as corsets and suits) and balances it with steampunk inspired accessories (in the form of gauntlets, rayguns, watches and so on). These accessories are often uniquely made which is the artistic side of Steampunk fashion, even when the accessories are simply purchased, the fashion movement still has a strong artistic side to it can require a certain level of artistic fashion sense to put everything together and make it look good (as opposed to say throwing on a pair of jeans a t-shirt).
